FAMILY DAY CARE

Family Day Care is quality child care offered in the homes of carefully selected & registered Carers (now called Educators). Family Day Care provides nurturing care in a secure and enriching home environment for babies and children up to 12 years of age. Carers/Educators work varying hours allowing greater flexibility for families.

QLECS centrally manage one Family Day Care Scheme with Carers/Educators in a number of suburbs spanning the Brisbane and Logan districts. We also have a locally managed Family Day Care Scheme in Beenleigh.

Our Family Day Care Services are licensed with the Office for Early Childhood Education and Care and operate under the Child Care Act 2002 and Child Care Regulations 2003, just like child care centres.

All QLECS Family Day Care services are committed to ongoing quality improvement and adhere to the National Childcare Standards. Child Care Benefit (CCB) and the Child Care Rebate are available for eligible families.

Carers/Educators are supported by their Scheme Coordination Unit. The role of the Coordination Unit is to

support and guide Carers/Educators and to proactively work with them in the ongoing quality improvement process. Carers/Educators work in partnership with the Coordination Unit to uphold organisational values, meet required legislation and national standards and provide a service that is of high quality and professionally delivered. Co-ordinators are available for emergency support in the evenings, overnight and at weekends on an ‘on-call’ basis as well as during regular working hours. The Coordination Unit maintains some equipment, toys and professional resources which are available for borrowing by Carers/Educators.

Regular play sessions are held to promote networking opportunities for Carers/Educators and provide opportunities for children to interact in larger groups.

For centrally managed services (Amana Family Day Care Scheme) there is a Community Liaison Group (CLG) which operates in an advisory capacity, providing parent and local community input into the running of the service for the benefit of children, families and Carers/Educators. For locally managed services (Beenleigh Family Day Care Scheme) this input is provided through the Governance Committee.
